The third International Encontro of Samba will be taking place in Rio de Janeiro, from January 27 to 30, 2008 at the Cidade do Samba, since the first and second edition in 2006 and 2007, it is already part of the Carioca Carnival events’ calendar. The idea is to offer the possibility to sambistas from England, Germany, Japan, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Sweden and the United Sates of America and else where to meet each other and to meet the most active and dedicated Brazilians sambistas, for an intense exchange of experiences and debates, workshops and examples of different samba aspects and Brazilian culture.

The event is directed by samba lovers of different nationalities, professionals and non-professionals, living in or visiting Rio de Janeiro and offering a wide variety of activities during this time. The activities will start at 3pm on Sunday January the 27th, for the opening meeting at the barracão 1 at the Cidade do Samba, gathering several foreign and Brazilian sambistas, to debate and exchange about the samba activities in there respecting countries.

During this week, the participants will have the chance to attend conferences, roundtables, see performances, movie screenings and do intensive percussion, dance, carnival customs workshops etc.

But this is just the beginning, the Third International Encontro do Samba is also a participative tourism proposition about samba culture, which offers its participants orientation to experiment with more safety, comfort and happiness the main parties, shows, rehearsals, parades, blocos and samba schools during the intense calendar of the 2008 Carnival of Rio. From January 31st to February 8th, several participation options will be offered.
